Luxurious New Club For The Super Exclusive Yacht Club De Monaco

The super-exclusive Yacht Club de Monaco finally unveiled its luxurious new club house with lavish celebrations last week.

Years in the making, the opening was led by HSH Prince Albert II and was attended by Lord Foster and the club's members.

The incredible new building forms the centrepiece of the remodelled Monaco harbour. The harbour's breathtaking new facilities preserve the club's traditions while also stamping its authority as the world's leading international centre for yachting excellence.

Nigel Dancey, Senior Partner at Foster + Partners said the new building was designed with the local climate in mind, and that their approach to sustainability is to maximise the natural advantages of the local climate, while mitigating its extremes.

Photovoltaic cells and solar thermal panels convert Monaco's sunshine to energy, while the sea water is used for cooling and the facades can open completely to allow natural ventilation.

The building's large, deck-like terraces step up along the harbour allowing for unparalleled views out to races at sea.

Formula 1 fans are also well catered for, as the terraces offers a wonderful view over the famous Monaco Grand Prix circuit.

The building features a number of floors, the first, called deck two, featuring a club room, bar restaurant and swimming pool, all of which are exclusive to YCM members.

The floor above features a double-height function space, executive offices and a number of cabins for its members. There is also a range of event spaces in the uppermost floors.

Harbour elevations can be opened up to provide wonderful views while the open air observation decks offer a unique touch for luxury yacht enthusiasts.

All of the decks and cascading terraces are shaded by retractable fabric screens, supported by masts and booms to evoke the feeling of a ship moored in the harbour.

The new YCM Marina features 26 berths for 25-60 metre superyachts, and can also accommodate a range of craft, including sailing boats.

A number of shops and public spaces bring the harbour to life, which the club say reinforces the club's role as a destination for the whole community, as well as accommodating the Principality's historic rowing club and the YCM's sailing school.

The school is designed primarily for children and provides classrooms, workshops and lofts for small boats.

On top of the sailing school is a fully landscaped park, bounded on one side by the club's restaurant terrace and leading on the other side to a new space for cultural activities.

The park also forms a new link in the pedestrian route between the quayside and main Square.
